Time is the point or period at which things occur. Time, though relative is simply the “when of an action or event. Any time wasted can never be recovered. My mum tells me that creating time for everything helps you to be organised and that you will eventually find yourself achieving things at an early age. This is what I mean, I never liked to read books nor listen to news on TV but my father will always call me and say “Do you realize you’re going into the profession journalism? Do you know that reading motivational and inspirational books can profit you?” I never took his words serious, but when I got into the institution, I began to see the importance of what my dad used to tell me, that even reading books can help me publish my own books, listening to news can help me become updated so I can have the boldness to speak in public with confidence but I ignored and was rather busy spending my time on social media which added nothing to me intellectually.
I once read a book which says an opportunity for you to learn is an opportunity for you to earn, but something made that opportunity come through which is the time that was created.
It is important that one develops effective strategies for managing his/her time; while I was in school I joined the choir unit in church. My lectures ended by 5pm while my rehearsal began by 6pm and I had to be on time but it was clashing with something else, it meant that after lecture, I had just an hour to be prepared for the rehearsal but I was able to balance my time. One needs to balance the conflicting demands of time for study, leisure, earning money and job-hunting among others. Time management skills are valuable in job-hunting, but also in many other aspects of life: from revising for examinations to working in a vacation job.
Sometimes, it may seem as if there is not enough time to do everything that one needs to do, which could lead to a build-up of stress but I write to you as a fellow youth that you don’t need to sleep always, you mustn’t have a full day rest, be occupied, strive hard, you must be unique, it may seem not to be working good as you expect but even the sky won’t be your limit when you occupy yourself with positivity and you begin to see the results. One other very crucial thing is prayers. Never forget to pray, you must factor Him into your daily routine with prayers to him in the morning.
Once we have identified ways in which we can improve the management of our time, we can begin to adjust our routines and patterns of behaviour to reduce any time-related stress in our lives. I learnt something from a book I once read ‘managing your emotions by Joyce Meyer who wrote that knowing yourself is very important emotionally and intellectually. You should know when you are able to read, in what condition and environment, in other not to be overstressed thereby falling asleep in the process (it has happened to me before).
Sometimes in the past, It was common place for me to forget most of my plans for the week. I found out a way to guide against that by getting a diary, I then wrote down my plans to execute. This effort has helped me a lot.
Achieving one of your long term plans, especially the one that has put you through a lot to achieve might get you so excited that you tend to forget others in your scale. Having my plans boldly written in a diary or reminder jotter has really helped in seeing that my set goals are met.
It is important to make the activities in your plans foremost priority over any unplanned event that could come up at the course of actualizing the ones planned. For instance, one needs to learn how not to leave for a place which was never planned for in your agenda for the day until the planned ones are achieved. Most youths do this and at the end of the day they achieve nothing.
Remember that when planning, make sure you identify your aims and objectives, and set the ones achievable and of significant importance. Prepare yourself for the unforeseen or unexpected and learn to be able to work effectively under pressure, focusing on meeting deadlines and having good plan.
Always try to avoid distractions like Facebook and other forms of social media which I spent most of my time doing in the past and was never beneficial to me, unless you use these tools to generate business. But remember that it is not easy to get everything done at once. One major occupation which tends to take more of one’s time is journalism, yet there are people involved in it who are risk takers and well known today. The crux of the matter is that you must learn to manage your time and do the right thing at the right time in order of their priority and importance.
